For those unaware, my brother, Kelvin, has been in the hospital since Oct 28th off and on and has officially been in the hospital for four months now. Today, as I was leaving for work, the hospital calls me to tell me that Kelvin's blood pressure is dropping and he's not responding. Once I got up there, Kelvin was awake a the most coherent he's been for months, but his blood pressure isn't going up and there are nurses coming in and out of the room constantly. Finally, the doctor comes to speak to me, as this is not a good sign. Honestly, none of what's being going on for the last six months is a good sign. I knew we'd be here eventually, but I was hoping it was still far, far off.
Doctor explains to me that they're going to send Kelvin down to ICU and hook him up to blood pressure meds. If he can't maintain his own blood pressure when they start weening him off of it... After I relay this to Kelvin as best I can, his mind starts to go again and I went to get something to eat as they moved him to ICU. Kelvin is skin on bone and yellow. If you don't hear form me, check my Facebook or the BFFT's discord, which is linked in the top right of this website. Thank you all for your help and understanding during this time. My brother Kelvin has cirrhosis due to fatty liver. He has lived with this condition for several years, but it has steadily worsened to the point that his doctors want Kelvin to have a liver transplant.
Unfortunately, Kelvin experienced a very severe episode of confusion last month, which has become a permanent state of dementia. Kelvin has been trying to get disability as the cirrhosis has heavily impacted his ability to work, but disability has denied him and keeps dragging their feet on the appeals. Without disability and the insurance that comes with it, I cannot find care and support for my brother. With this money, I want to move my brother closer to me and have caregivers to keep Kelvin company and healthy when I'm at work or doing errands. If you are able, please donate, otherwise, please spread the word. |
